BUJUMBURA, February 15, a grenade blast rocked Burundi capital Bujumbura killing two and injuring a dozen others.
The Monday blast took place in the center of Bujumbura and northern locality according to witnesses and local media reports.
Two of the explosions happened in an open market in Ngagara area of Bujumbura, killing at least two while another two grenade exploded in the center of capital Bujumbura injuring over 30 people most of them children and women, Public Security Minister Alain Guillaume Bunyoni told media.
The grenade attacks occurred in four different places in the capital, the police managed to seize a motorcycle and other equipment used by criminals.
Bunyoni said the security forces had launched an operation to track down and apprehend the attackers. He called on local residents to continue collaborating with security forces through the joint security committees sharing of information.
Since April 2015, Burundi has been going through a political crisis witnessed when President Pierre Nkurunziza announced that he would be seeking a third term. A move that was opposed and termed as a violation of Burundi’s constitution.
