Germany formally ended its military training mission in Somalia, the country’s armed forces (Bundeswehr) announced on Tuesday 3/4/2018.
Germany has been involved in European Union Training Mission in Mogadishu. With over a dozen military personnel in Somalia, it has trained more than 5,600 Somali soldiers.
On Bundeswehr webpage, it said that the armed forces have completed their mission and are withdrawing their personnel and equipment from Somalia.
“In future, the engagement of Germany in Somalia will focus on the development of civilian structures to ensure security for the population,” it said.
During their mission in Somalia, they have trained SNA soldiers on how defuse IEDs which have become weapon of choice for the Al-Qaeda (AQ) linked Al-Shabaab.
