Kenya’s chief of defense forces, General Julius Karangi faces a possible arrest for contempt of court, a judge has warned.
The decorated general who served the Kibaki regime and now is serving the Uhuru Kenyatta government has been accused of holding soldiers who wished to leave the army illegally.
High court judge Edward Muriithi gave orders that the six soldiers be released by 9th of May 2014.
The six soldiers deserted duty in what most military officers call AWOL, with an intent of quitting serving the Kenyan army.
They were arrested and court martial-ed and subsequently jailed by the military.
26 members of the defense forces are in court accusing the military of holding them.
