President Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast has been overthrown through a military intervention involving the United Nations and French forces.
His top Generals discussed terms of departure as he hid in a bunker in his presidential residence.
French and UN forces distracted his presidential guard by attacking them helping Quattara forces to quickly besieges his enclave.
Gbagbo is a 66-year-old former history professor.
He claimed to have won the 2010 presidential runoff but conflicting reports showed Quattara as winner.
Gbagbo spent many years fighting for democracy and human rights and won the hearts of Ivoirians.
He is headed for Mauritania where he will be in exile.
