Government forces in Galmudug have launched a security operation in Mudug area in north-central Somalia arresting several dozens of al Shabaab in the comprehensive sweep.
Security officials maintain that the operation was based on human intelligence from residents of the region. The al Shabaab presence in the region is said to be increasing and as such the need for military intervention.
A military source in Mudug and Galgaduud are feeling frustrated by these regions’ hold by the al Shabaab and as such the operation is the first in a series of operations that are set to rid the areas of the jihadist elements.
Al Shabaab presence has marred central Somalia and as such a spike in violent attacks both targeted and indiscriminate and aimed at military and civilian positions.
