France has pledged $1 billion euros ($1.15 billion) that will be focused at helping Iraq rebuild after its war with the Islamic State (ISIS) that has caused destruction since 2014. The aid from France will be mainly targeted the most devastated areas in the country as well as help in a holistic approach of achievement of stability for the Middle Eastern country.
Iraq’s Planning Ministry in 2018 estimated the cost of reconstruction at $88 billion. The country was able to raise $30 billion at a donor conference in Kuwait in February. Therefore, the pledge is welcome assistance to the nation that has suffered one of the most expensive devastations in modern times.
France is a member of the U.S.-led international coalition that has defeated the group in most of its territory in Iraq and Syria. France has an estimated 200 troops in the battle against ISIS in Syria.
