Two days of intense battle between forces of Interim Galmudug Administration and Ahlu Sunna Wajameeca (ASWJ) militants have seen the troops take control of a state in Central Somalia.
Abudwaak town in central Somalia has been under the control of Islamist group of Ahlu Sunna Wajameeca militias for over a decade. Following 2 days of fiery battle, the forces of Interim Galmudug Administration took full control of the town, thereby freeing the whole state of militant rule.
Ahlu Sunna Wajameeca (ASWJ) is a Somalia-based paramilitary group consisting of moderate Sufis opposed to radical Islamist groups such as Al-Shabaab. They are fighting to prevent strict Sharia and Wahhabism from being imposed, and protecting the local Sunni-Sufi traditions and generally moderate religious views.
Deals in the past, between the government and ASWJ have stipulated that the paramilitary group help fight Harakat Al Shabaab Al Mujahideen (Al Shabaab) but the two (ASWJ and the government) have along the lines entered into fire citing ideological differences until Galmudug Administration labeled ASWJ terrorist.
The combat started Monday 7th September 2015 and continued until Wednesday 9th and resulted in the death of 20 militants.
