SINAI PENINSULA: The death toll in the last four days in the on-going large scale military by the Egyptian army against the Islamic State linked militants has risen to 134.
According to the Army statement, at least 48 militants were killed on Thursday 10th September 2015 by the government forces in their continued offensives in the plagued Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweid, the city of el-Arish and the border town of Rafah.
Beginning of the week on Monday, Egyptian troops killed at least 86 terrorists according to the military sources in a major offensive against the militant’s targets across the volatile Peninsula.
This brings the total to 134 militants killed during the ongoing massive operation over the past four days.
In the operations at least two Egyptian soldiers have lost their lives during clashes across the militant-infested region.
SUMMARY
Egyptian Forces views Sinai Peninsula as fertile sanctuary for extremists who use the volatile region as safe haven for hiding and planning of their attacks.
Velayat Sinai, the militant group previously known as Ansar Bait al-Maqdis in the town of Sheikh Zuweid has claimed responsibility for most terrorist activities in the Sinai Peninsula.
The militant group pledged allegiance to the Islamic State Takfiri group (Daesh) in November 2014.
Islamic State militant group is wreaking havoc primarily in Iraq and neighboring Syria though it has extended its tentacles in Libyan city of Sirte.
