Fahad Yasin will now head the substantive Somalia spy agency NISA following a major shakeup in the security sector Thursday 22nd August 2019.
The major security shake-up also saw Somala army chief Dahir Adan Elmi relieved of his duties a year after taking up the job.
The new spy Yasin has been deputy director general of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) for about ten months and was elevated to the top of the agency. He was moved from Villa Somalia as chief of staff in August 2018.
General Odowaa Yusuf Raage who has been the head of the SNA ground forces replaced his boss Elmi as head of the military in the new shakeup as the Federal Government.
The shake-up also affected the police force which saw deputy army Chief Abdi Hassan Hajar elevated as the new boss. Mahad Abdirahman Adan was appointed to charge of the prisons department.
The elevation of NISA boss who was instrumental in the election of President Mohamed Farmaajo and closely allied to Qatar comes as no surprise but marks a milestone in the fight for the much-coveted position among Villa Somalia bureaucrats.
Under General Raage’s command of immediate forces, Somali military backed by troops from African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) recently liberated town and villages in Lower Jubba, Lower Shabelle, and Middle Shabelle regions that still have the grip of the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab.
Among the areas liberated include, Awdeeghle town, Sabiid, Barrier and Elsalini.
