A bomb has exploded outside Pantami stadium where the Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, was holding a campaign rally. The bomb exploded about three minutes after the president’s convoy had left the stadium located in the capital of Gombe State. This incident occurred today evening.
Intelligence sources reveal that a tricycle parked along Abubakar Habu Hashidu Road exploded and killed five people and injured 18 others. It is believed that two of the dead people were the suicide bombers. Intelligence sources have also revealed that the suicide bombing was executed by female suicide bombers. Medical personnel have confirmed the above casualty figures.
Boko Haram is suspected of having perpetrated this attack as a retribution for their defeat during yesterday’s battle with the Nigerian military in Maiduguri. The Nigerian military has confirmed that it killed several Boko haram terrorists and captured military resources from the terror group including two artillery pieces, two armored vehicles and seventeen Hilux pick-ups. The terrorists were also expelled from Maiduguri.
Boko Haram has waged a brutal insurgency in Northern Nigerian with the explicit aim of overthrowing the government and replacing it with an Islamic caliphate. The terror group has repeatedly carried out a number of suicide bomb attacks – using female suicide bombers -against both civilian and military targets.
