Pirates and Al-Shabaab suffered a major setback when the European Union naval force EU NAVFOR in the East African country launched its first official land attack on the militia.
The European Union naval force helicopter gunships attacked a pirate base in Mudug, an area recently invaded by Al-Shabaab and destroyed 5- speed boats/skiffs used by pirates to hijack ships in the Indian Ocean.
Strategic Intelligence confirms that the skiffs belonged to pirates who have hijacked MV-Orna and Albedo, both are hijacked ships.
The EU NAVFOR attack took place at Handulle, a coastal village near Hardhelle, a pirate haven.
