A considerable number of Ethiopian troops have entered Somalia ready to counter the Somali based jihadists.
According to residents of southwestern Gedo region, the troops began crossing the border on Monday with tanks and armoured vehicles. Heavy presence of the troops has been seen in the town of Luq.
Ethiopian authorities have mobilized their forces ready for a major offensive in the areas still under the control of the Al Shabaab militants, including the last major stronghold, the town of Bardere.
Summary
Recently Al Shabaab militant group has faced counter operations from joint AMISOM forces which have destroyed a couple of their operation camps. Large numbers of the militants have suffered Kenya Defence Forces surgical airstrikes.
The Islamists have lost most of the territories they once controlled in Somalia but they are still waging sporadic attacks inside Somalia while raising terror activities within the East Africa region.
Ethiopia forces invaded Somalia in 2006 and they are currently working in tandem with African Union mission (AMISOM) playing a major role in fighting Al Shabaab militants out of Somali’s capital Mogadishu and other areas.
