The Ethiopian National Defense Force confirmed of an ambush by the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab on its convoy in Somalia saying it is preparing a massive offensive in response.
In a statement, Ethiopia National Defense Forces refuted on the propaganda claims made by Al-Shabaab that it had killed several Ethiopian troops in an ambush.
Ethiopia which contributes troops to a multinational African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia was ambushed by Al-Shabaab extremists when their convoy was traveling from Burhakaba to Baidoa in Somalia’s southwest.
According to AMISOM report, its troops responded to the enemy’ fire killing four extremists and wounding several others. The statement also indicated that three soldiers belonging to the Ethiopian contingent were wounded during the incident.
In late October 2018, Al-Shabaab propaganda outlets claimed that the extremist fighters had killed 30 Ethiopian troops inside Somalia. Weeks before that, Ethiopian state media outlets reported that the Ethiopian Air Force shelled 70 Al-Shabaab fighters after the extremist group tried to attack military base.
