The mastermind of the botched Ethiopian coup General Asaminew Tsige has been killed. Intelligence reports show that Tsige was killed by a team of elite Ethiopian Military Forces outside the city of Bahir Dar, Bahir-Dar the capital of Amhara a regional prefecture of the landlocked East African country. General Asaminew Tsige was killed in a shootout, according to intelligence reports. This would mean he had armed men with him during the shootout with Ethiopian Army.
Earlier in the day, intelligence reports indicated that the assassin of Dr Ambachew Mekonnen, and his assistant Ezez Wasie was arrested but later committed suicide. The events in Ethiopia caught the eye of the world after the country’s top General was assassinated. The government in Addis issued a statement confirming the coup and the successful preemption by the state operatives.
The country was plunged in an internet blackout, a standard security measure often deployed to mitigate risk of implosion of enemy propaganda and dissemination of unverified information that can further cause threats to a country’s national security.
