Ethiopians at a memorial service mourned the slain military chief, Seare Mekonnen. The military leaders present praised the slain chief and vowed to restore stability to the shaken country.
His deputy, General Birhanu Jelan while addressing more than 1,000 people who had gathered at Millennium Hall on Tuesday Morning, 25th June 2019 to pay their respects reaffirmed that Ethiopia military will continue the struggle that Mekonnen had started.
His son, Maasho Seare mourned of his father, described him as a hero who always believed in Ethiopian unity and worked for tolerance among its people.
The military chief was shot dead at home on Saturday 22nd June 2019 by his bodyguard alongside retired Major-General Gezae Abera. Both military chiefs were honored at Tuesday’s service. Their coffins were draped with an Ethiopian flag

Both Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Sahle-Work Zewde attended the memorial service.
The attack on the two military men in Addis followed another deadly attack, hours earlier, on officials in the northern Amhara region’s capital, Bahir Dar.
Ethiopia state television identified the Amhara region’s security chief, Brigadier General Asamnew Tsige, as the mastermind of an attempted coup.
Asamnew was captured and killed on Monday in Bahir Dar’s Zenzelima neighborhood. The state media reported that security forces shot the general dead as he tried to escape.
