At least 46 Islamist militants were reported killed in northern Sinai in a recent clash with Egyptian forces.
According to Egyptian security sources, hundreds of militants have been killed since the launch of a major campaign in February 2018 that was aimed at defeating and disrupting Islamic State and related jihadist groups in restive Sinai Peninsula.
About 100 suspects have been arrested, more than 200 explosive devices found. More than 30 cars and scooters belonging to the terrorist elements have been confiscated or destroyed, the sources further added.
The Sinai Peninsula has been a haven for various terror organizations that have either fled from the Middle East or neighboring Libya. Counterterrorism operations continues in bid to defeat Islamic State terrorists, Hasm terrorist group, an armed affiliate of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood targeting security forces.
