Strategic reports indicate that the diplomatic crisis in the Gulf is gradually weakening the Somali Federal Government (SFG) as they struggle to fight the al Qaeda-affiliated terror organization.
Somalia recently decided to terminate a military training agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following a bitter row involving cash seized from an Emirati plane. Moreover, Somali officials accused UAE of financing political challenge against the sitting president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
Tensions between UAE and Somalia accelerated by the refusal of SFG from severing ties with Qatar following the pressure by the two powers (UAE and Saudi) pressure in 2017. The brewing tensions in the Gulf have been affecting Somalia’s sovereignty by seeking to pressure the administration to take sides in the diplomatic tensions.
Somalia has been fighting al Shabaab militants for over two decades and has been seeking to establish ties with entities that help foster the stability, peace and sustainable development for the Horn of Africa nation.
