ABUDWAK, Somalia: A deadly clash between Interim Galmudug government forces and a moderate Islamists militia group linked to ideologies of the Al Shabaab ran for two consecutive days.
More than a dozen of Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamea militants have reportedly been killed in a row in central Somalia town of Abudwak.
According to medics and local witnesses, the fighting raged between Interim Galmudug administration (IGA) forces fighting the Islamists Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamea aligned to the Al Shabaab militant group.
A spokesman for Galmudug and Deputy Minister for Constitution, Mohamed Hayir Nur told the media that Ahlu Sunna militias fomented the deadly violence from Tuesday to late Wednedsday.
The heaviest armed confrontations in Abudwak’s neighborhood has prompted local residents to start fleeing fearing for their security.
OSINT reports indicate that Galmudug soldiers managed to seize and taking full control of Abudwak Police Station, with Ahlu Sunna militias retreating and regrouping in vicinity, 3km off Abudwak town as more reinforcement from Interim Galmudug administration (IGA) asked to come in to restore order and normalcy.
In the latest development, Galmudug state has accused the government Iran of supporting the Somali Moderate Islamist, Ahlu-Sunna waljama’a.
12th September 2015, while speaking to the reporters in Adado town, Galmudug information minister Mohamed Adan Osman said that it is unfortunate that the Islamic Republic of Iran is backing Ahlu-Suna waljama’a militarily in order to obtain its interests in the region.
