Critics of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari came out strongly to oppose his alleged going slow with Boko Haram militants. In an article posted on OSINT 19th, the analyst says that Buhari should take leadership lessons from Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau.
The analyst insinuates that the newly elected Nigerian leader should be more violent and as murderous as the terrorist group in the terrorist plagued Africa’s most populous nation.
Intelligence summaries however place Buhari as a good security strategist. There are plans that he has put in place to completely wipe out Boko Haram militants from their main bases in North east Nigeria especially in terror plagued Borno Estate that has encountered most militant killings. The militants must have no room even in the neighboring countries including Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin.
Boko haram is a wide network and it should not be met with retaliatory murders to match their brutal killings. Instead it would be wise to find strategies to root them out completely. This is what Buhari has in mind, banking on his military as well as in the capability of a regional task force.
Recently, Muhammadu Buhari gave his military a three months’ ultimatum to ensure that they completely face out Boko Haram terrorists from the country. This, according to intelligence forecast will ensure that Nigeria’s military acts under tight pressure to deliver positive results. And sure, there will be some positive outcomes.
Buhari’s decision to unite unit regional forces into one operational task force is also a wise strategic plan. It is working in Eastern Africa with the AMISOM forces that are fighting collectively to relive Somalia of Al Shabaab plague. If Nigerian, Cameroonian, Niger, Chadian as well as Beninese troops come into one operational task force, it will be easier to arrange them strategically to tackle insurgents.
On Friday 7th August, Buhari directed the country’s military to incline towards local production of weapons during a military ceremony. This is a move that will reduce overdependence on the West for resources to fight the militants.
It is clear that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari means well for the country that has for long been plagued by militants. A little more time into office will most probably lead to the realization of the strategies he has in place to mop the militants out of his country.
