Chinese Premier arrived in Nairobi on the evening of Friday 9th May with his delegation and was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the largest airport in East and Central Africa, by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang is in Nairobi for a 3 day visit and was accompanied with 400 Chinese businessmen who will be shopping for business deals in Kenya.
In what signifies a reciprocation of President Kenyatta’s grand visit to China, the Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang arrived in Nairobi to strengthen ties between Kenya and China.
Kenya has bought military equipment including gunship helicopters and troop transport truck.
Chinese construction companies are thriving in Kenya and the Premier is expected to seal multi-billion shillings deals during their talks with the Kenyan leader.
President Kenyatta and Premier Li, will explore how to further strengthen bilateral relations and how to address international issues and regional matters.
Kenya views China as a strategic partner in economic and military cooperation and development.
Geopolitical Value of China to Kenya
Kenya has positioned itself as the regional economic hub and by rank, it is the largest economy in East and Central Africa.
Currently Nairobi is spearheading the fast-tracking of the regional economic block that will make East and Central Africa accessible economically.
These projects only put’s Kenya on the forefront as the big brother of East and Central Africa.
Economic power must be protected with military power, thus Kenya remains the most powerful East and Central African nation and ranks as Africa’s 6th most powerful nation.
China finds this lucrative and with new found energy resources such as oil, Kenya is the single most important Chinese target in Africa.
Kenya is a package that even the West must worry about, massive energy resources such as oil, geothermal, and hydro, rich agricultural lands, great tourist attractions, and rare minerals valued in billions of dollars, losing the country as a friend and trade partner will be a stupid mistake.
