Event:
The People’s Republic of China on 10th December announced a $2.2 million donation to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in their continued streak of supporting peace and security in Africa.
Summary:
China donated $2.2 million to AMISOM that will be in two batches. $1.2 million of the donation to be used to improve the welfare of the AMISOM staff which reports have indicated to be very difficult. $1 million dollars balance is set to construct armories for the Somali National Army thus improving their capabilities.
China has been an avid supporter providing both technical and financial aid to Africa’s security sectors with $100 million pledge to fund the African Standby Force which is aimed at giving Africa military independence from the global community which takes longer to intervene in crises.
