Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) offered free medical services to residents of Hoosingo village, Somalia, on Monday.
After the heavy rains, fear arose of water-borne diseases after heavy rains, prompting KDF to open up a medical camp at the town’s health center.
Residents of Hoosingo village and surrounding areas came in large numbers to receive treatment and routine check-ups.
Of those attended to, three tested positive for cholera prompting the troops to take all necessary measures to control the situation and avoid further spread.
One of the attended, Ahmed Abdullahi, was in tears as his three-year-old was receiving treatment. He applauded security personnel for stepping in and providing medical and psychological support through counselling and follow up sessions.
In the spirit of Ramadhan, the troops also donated assorted food items to the locals.
In appreciation, area councilman Sheikh Noor Mohammed invited the troops to join the villagers during Iftar.
