A brother and sister were over the past weekend killed after a landmine exploded in southern Somalia.
The two siblings were travelling on a Bajaaj when the vehicle hit a landmine planted on the roadside Mahaday district in Middle Shabelle.
According to Mahad Hassan, the Minister for Information in Hirshabelle, SNA forces were deployed to the area and managed to defuse two separate bombs nearby.
No one or group immediately claimed responsibility but the militant insurgency group Al-Shabaab is widely believed to be behind roadside landmine attacks targeting on military vehicles.
The roads in South and Central Somalia are besieged with landmines that occasionally detonate causing death and injury to the residents who live in the area.
