Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF)
In what has been misinterpreted as tactical hand over of power to the next generation, Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni promoted Kainerugaba Muhoozi (his son) to the rank of a Major General from Brigadier.
Kainerugaba Muhoozi was among the newly promoted officers sent to all UPDF’s army units and considered as one of the most powerful soldier in Uganda’s army.
Muhoozi who was a Brigadier and head of Special Force Command (SFC), is now a Major General. SFC is considered an army within the army with all military units such as the Air Force and an Infantry.
SFC is responsible for the security of the President, Vice President, and members of the first family.
The unit is also charged with the security of key government installations including the country's oil fields.
Also promoted was Maj Gen Joram Mugume to the rank of Lt. General and four others from the ranks of Col to Brigadier.
General Katumba Wamala remains the head of Uganda's army.
