Wednesday 7th October 2015, at least five people were killed in a bomb attack in Somalia livestock market. The explosion that ripped a market located in Southern Somalia town of Afgoye killed at least five people among them two soldiers and three civilians.
According to traders, the bomb could have been planted at night so as to target a bigger crowd at dawn when livestock market is busy. Following the blast traders fled fearing for more explosions.
Though no one has claimed to be responsible for the heinous attack on innocent traders, the region is fertile of Al Shabaab militants and frequently they usually stage terror activities.
The Al Qaeda affiliated Al Shabaab terrorist group has carried out a string of such assaults in the area targeting civilians as well as government officials.
Afgoye town lies about 30 kilometers northwest of Mogadishu and was once a major Al Shabaab stronghold until 2012 when government forces backed by African Union peacekeeping troops intervened and took control.
The Afgoye town lies strategically on a crossroads for routes to the north, west and south of Somalia.
