Nigeria’s Secret police have arrested a gunrunner linked to supplying weapons and ammunition to the Boko Haram militants in the country. According to intelligence acquired, the gunrunner identified as Jonah Abbey has been on Nigeria’s most wanted list for over ten years.
Mr. Abbey, who was arrested alongside his driver Agyo Saviour, allegedly supplied arms to criminal groups – many of whom are located in the oil-rich Niger Delta, the south-east and parts of central Nigeria.
Prior to his arrest, the police had linked him to the movement of arms and ammunition in Borno State which is heavily occupied by Boko Haram militants who have been terrorizing Nigerian residents including kidnapping school girls.
The arrest of Boko Haram’s gun supplier is very important in decapitating the operations of the militants. Boko Haram has been slowly spreading across the Lake Chad basin countries and as such the arrest of Abbey is crucial in dismantling the terror organization.
