Ground operations backed by an aerial campaign conducted by regional counter-terrorism forces have pushed Boko Haram out of all the major towns they captured during the peak of the Islamist insurgency. Recently, the terrorists were routed from Bama, thus denying Boko Haram a critical territory from where it could launch an attack on Maiduguri.
The string of battlefield successes for the counterterrorism forces can be attributed to seamless coordination of military operations as well as the involvement of white mercenaries in the present in the military campaign.
The Nigerian Government has confirmed that Adamawa state has been cleansed on Boko Haram elements, and that at the moment, the allied forces are conducting mop-up operations on areas abutting the Cameroon border. Earlier on, Chadian troops played a significant role in expelling Boko Haram from Gwoza. Boko Haram had used Gwoza as its headquarters, and its capture by Chadian troops was a significant blow to the terror group. Yobe state has also been cleansed of Boko Haram, thus leaving Borno state as the only region where the jihadists maintain their presence.
Intelligence report indicates that Boko Haram has retreated to the vast Sambisa forest, and that its leaders are currently on the run. The terror group has been severely degraded and its offensive capabilities vanquished. At the moment, its insurgency is on its deathbed.
