Boko Haram terrorists have attacked Chadian government troops who were stationed in Gumbaru town. The attack occurred today, and military sources have confirmed that the terrorists were beaten back. Gumbaru town is located in northeastern Nigeria, and it was the scene of two major battles, the first one occurring when the Sunni insurgents successfully dislodging the Nigerian security forces from the town, and the second one occurred when the Chadian troops successfully dislodged the Islamists from the town.
At the moment, no details concerning the casualties sustained during the attack have been released but Chadian military sources report that they managed to capture one technical from the terrorists in addition to destroying two other technicals.
Boko Haram also attacked N’Guigmi village and engaged Chadian and Nigerien soldiers stationed there in a battle that involved exchange of both machine-gun and mortar fire. Unconfirmed reports reveal that the attack was meant to prevent Nigerien troops from transiting through the territory and joining up with the rest of the regional counter-terrorism forces based in Borno state. Nigerian parliament recently authorized the national military to join the multinational offensive against Boko Haram.
The attacks come at a time when the Nigerian military has commenced operations in Sambisa Forest to flush out the insurgents and pacify Borno and neighboring states.
