Michael Brown’s Shooting in Ferguson Indicative of Racism in US
By David James
A CNN raw video shows a police officer call rioters in Ferguson ‘animals’. Overwhelmed by the rioters, the police were nearly losing their nerves. That event itself was disturbing, it depicted a society that had forgotten the values of democracy. Both the police and the rioters were no-longer Americans of the dream nations, rather humans engulfed by racist rage and hate.
Riots continue to wreak havoc in Ferguson in Missouri leading to seven arrests and one man critically shot. The Missouri governor Jay Nixon, has come out strongly condemning police for inflaming anger by besmirching the black teenagers name.
The cause on the unrest is the racist ideology among the residents of Ferguson. The shooting of Michael Brown was wrong and the racist aspects of the act itself continue to draw raw emotions. Police actions including the attempt to tarnish the black teens name through a CCTV video footage only aggravates the situation.
The situation is what it was not supposed to be, a resident has claimed. 200 protesters braved torrential rains overnight to push home their point “justice for Michael Brown”. Police deployed armored vehicles and imposed a curfew and when the protesters stood their ground, they lobbed tear gas on their vigil forcing them to scamper for safety.
Police have not used a proper procedure to defuse the tension rather have continued to vehemently defend the killings and at the same time profiling the blacks as violent and unruly lot.
Racial friction may trigger more social unrest and pit once peace communities against each other in the worlds most revered society. The crime history of Ferguson is long as the strained relationship between the White cops and the residents.
