The incursion by Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) into Ituri Province continues after the Jihadists conducted another attack in Apende village in the chiefdom of Walese Vonkutu in the territory of Irumu. The militants burned down at least 10 homes and looted food and livestock and killed at least eight people.
Preliminary intelligence indicates that the militants entered the village dressed as law enforcement officers apprehending civilians, robbing them, and finally butchering them with machetes. The militants also shot guns before burning homes and making away with livestock and foodstuff.
This new massacre comes on a day after an incursion by the same Jihadists cost the lives of 2 civilians, caused several injuries, and the looting of dwellings and business houses in Ndimo, in the same region.
Residents in the past have taken matters into their own hands lynching any caught terrorists as they feel that the Congolese military is not quick to respond to the growing militancy in Ituri as a sizeable military presence is active in Beni where the group is headquartered. This has allowed for the expansion of the group in Ituri Province and as such while CT efforts are concentrated in Beni the group has been expanding into Ituri and towards Uganda.
