At least 12 members of the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab were arrested in a recent, well-coordinated operation in Baidoa town, the administrative capital of Southwest State in Somalia.
The security operation was intelligence-led according to commander of Intelligence and Security Agency for Southwest State Mohamud Mohamed Hassan. Besides arresting the twelve terror operatives, the forces managed to destroy their network in the strategic Baidoa town, Bay region of southern Somalia.
According to the intelligence official, the militants were trying to create fear and threat in Baidoa town before they were arrested by the forces.
So far Al-Shabaab militant group that has staged several attacks with the vicinity of Baidoa town in the past recent weeks has not issued any comment on the latest security operation in the region but this crackdown comes ahead of parliamentary election in Southwest State.
