March 16, 2016: 10 al Shabaab suspects have been arrested in an overnight security sweep in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
According to Wadajir District commissioner Ahmed Abdulle Afrah, the operations were held with help from the AMISOM allied troops in the recent wave of al Shabaab crackdowns in the capital.
The nightly mop-ups are in efforts to arrest the al Shabaab militants who use the darkness camouflage to plant landmines and roadside bombs that have claimed innocent lives in the past few weeks.
The troops are employing human intelligence in the operations in a move that has been lauded by AMISOM troops who have sought to improve the public-troops cooperation in defeating al Shabaab.
