Kenyan security authorities are debriefing eight terrorist suspects who were arrested on Sunday.
The terror suspects were arrested at a Nairobi residential estate in possession of high-tech communication gadgets.
According to recent brief from Starehe divisional police commander Bernard Nyakwaka, the arrested were five Somalis and three Kenyans of Somali descent. Two cars they were travelling in were fitted with high tech communication gadgets were also intercepted.
During the raid, eight phones were recovered from the suspects. The suspects are in the hands of anti-terrorism officers for further interrogation.
According to the initial debrief, the three Kenyans of Somali descent had no proper identification documents and will be arraigned in court to face charges once the interrogation is completed sometimes this week.
It has been a month since joint security agencies launched a massive ‘Operation Linda Boni Forest’ with sole objective of flushing out the Al Shabaab militant cell causing fears in Lamu and broader coastal region.
Since the operation was launched, security in major key towns in the country has been beefed up ready any eventuality that the militant would plan retaliatory attacks. Areas such as Northeastern along Kenya-Somali border, coastal and Nairobi regions have scale-up security presence.
The arrests also come at a time when Nairobi is warming up to receive the Pope, head of Catholic faithful in a month’s time.
