Military reports from Somalia indicate that Ethiopian troops who are part of AMISOM battled Al-Shabaab militants on Monday 22nd February 2016 for hours after the militant’s ambushed troop’s trucks.
Ethiopian forces supply convoy heading to Baidoa came under attack in the outskirts of Ballidogle town near the airport.
The troops responded to the militant’s gunfire killing several Al-Shabaab fighters. Minor casualty was also reported from the Ethiopian side.
The forces were escorting vehicles that were procured for the interim South West Somalia State when their convoy was ambushed.
Al-Shabaab spokesman Sheikh Abu Musaib through their pro-militant radio in exaggerated report said that the militants seized up to six military vehicles. AMISOM confirmed Ethiopian troop’s battle with the militants but refuted the claims saying all the vehicles on the convoy were all accounted for.
Ethiopian troops are parts of the strong 22,000-strong African Union force battling the Al Qaeda affiliated Islamist group in Somalia.
