Since the launch of operation corridor on Friday 17th July, 2015 the Al Shabaab in Somalia have been losing their operational bases at a drastic rate.
In a period of only 48 hours between 22nd and 23rd July, forces battling out the Al Shabaab terror group were able to sweep the militants from two of their major bases in Southern Somalia. The fall of Dinsor and the town of Bardheere has been followed by other major achievements on the side of the troops.
Battle at Garbaharey and Baardheere
AMISOM forces backing the Somali National Army (SNA) are for the second day battling it out with Al-shabaab militants between Garbaharey and Baardheere.
Militants who managed to flee the town of Bardheere have been trying to sneak back in the town but are facing retaliation from the heavily armed troops. The troops are also carrying out air raids on militant bases in the area.
The fierce battle at Garbaharey and Baardheere marks the heavily armed troops encounter with the largest faction of fighters, an event most critical in the recently announced Operation Jubba Corridor which is aimed at pushing al-Shabab out of its last strongholds.
