AMISOM continue to train Somali Police officers in Mogadishu who are in turn deployed in an effort at detecting and eliminating extremism in the country.
Twenty Somali Police Force (SPF) officers this week ended a seven-day training in Mogadishu. They included18 male and two female officers from 17 police stations across the country.
The training entailed capacity building of the officers through continuous mentoring and reform initiatives, in line with AMISOM’s transition plan and commitment to improve peace and security in Somalia.
According to Hassan Alasow, SPF’s director of training and planning, the newly trained police officers will work closely with members of the community in order to get intelligence, subsequently detect and eliminate radicalization.

Alasow thanked AMISOM for their continued training of Somali police, imparting skills on how to detect and handle those radicalized by extremists and how to manage the reintegration of some of them into society.
He also highlighted that the training was important in equipping Somali police officers with critical policing skills that will help in quickly detecting and arresting terrorists and radical extremists.
