At least 10 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were killed in northeastern Nigeria’s Borno state by the the regional force battling insurgency in the Lake Chad area.
About 30 ISWAP terrorists including suicide bombers attempted to infiltrate a defensive position on Multinational Joint Task Force and national troops in the Baga area around 0530 local time.
According to MNJTF’s Chief of Military Public Information Colonel Timothy Antigha Antigha said that around the vigilant troops spotted their approach and thwarted the assault.
In the process, 10 Islamic State affiliated terrorists, including four suicide bombers were neutralized. Others escaped with gunshot wounds, Antigha added.
Unfortunately, during the clash, a soldier was martyred while five others sustained varying injuries and have been evaluated for medical attention.
Arms and ammunition including four AK assault rifles and mobile phones were recovered from slain terrorists.
Antigha re-emphasized that the MNJTF in partnership national forces will continue to pursue courses of action necessary for the achievement of its mandate in the Lake Chad Basin towards defeating the extremist insurgents.
The MNJTF, which comprises personnel from Chad, Cameroon, Niger, and Nigeria, launched Operation Yancin Tafki on February 21 to battle the extremist insurgents. The joint force continues to conduct cross-border operations aimed at making islands and other settlements in Lake Chad untenable for Islamic State affiliated Boko Haram Terrorists.
