2nd February 2016: AMISOM’s Public Information Officers completed an intensive course on the use of Radio-In-A-Box (RIAB) that is projected to improve the communication between the AMISOM troops and the local populations in Somalia.
Acting AMISOM military Chief of Staff Col. Daher Aden who preside the official launch said that the radio is a dominant information tool that will reach a wide audience in isolated regions of Somalia.
In somalia the radio will be used to broadcast vital information to Somali populations immediately and to a large audience. The radio will serve to warn and pass any vital and beneficial information in the event of a crisis.
Additionally, RIAB will be used as an interactive tool between the people taking advantage of the Somali culture of being an oral culture giving it priority as a tool to:
- Pass information during a crisis
- Have a dialogue between troops and local population instigating better understanding of ongoing matters
- Counter narratives from the enemies precisely Al Shabaab militants
- Promote peace, national unity and prosperity
The RIAB is expected to change the nature of interactions between the troops and the locals in line with the Federal Government of Somalia’s policies in a bid to change the dynamics of information sharing.
