The al Qaeda affiliated Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen in Somalia has withdrawn from Burdhubo district in Gedo region after facing off with Ethiopian troop under AMISOM stationed in the area.
The al Shabaab had recaptured the town from Somali troops barely a day before they were driven out of the two by the Ethiopians troops. According to locals, the troops surrounded the town which forced the militants to desert the town.
The situation has returned to normal as the allied forces secured the town and carried out a mine clearing operation following their comeback, according to the locals.
Al-Shabab has lost control of several small towns, including Mogadishu in the past years but still controls large swathes of territory in rural areas which troops have been mounting operation to ensure that rural Somalia is liberated too.
