Major-General Francis Nthenge passed of illness at the Nairobi Hospital on 30th July 2015.
Before his death, he served as the Deputy Force Commander at the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Major-General Nthenge’s life was celebrated by relatives, friends and colleagues at a requiem Mass at AIC Milimani in Nairobi on Thursday 6th August.
The military general who led Kenya in the war against Al-Shabaab in Somalia buried on Friday 7th August 2015.
Career Life
Major-General Francis Nthenge was eulogized as a role model to many and he served the Kenya Defence Forces with dedication for 36 years.
Major-General Nthenge joined the military in 1978 and through hard work and dedication rose through the ranks.
He served in various capacities including, Lieutenant-Colonel and commanding officer of 77 Artillery Battalion in Mombasa.
The deceased also performed duties as liaison officer between Kenya Defence Forces and United States of America Department of Defence at the US Central Command in Florida, US.
He also served as a Brigadier in charge of Kenya Army Artillery. During his tenure, he was credited for modernizing the military.
Prior to heading to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Major General Nthenge also served as an Assistant Chief of Forces in charge of Operations, Doctrine and Training at Defence headquarters in Nairobi.
