AMISOM troops have took control of the strategic town of Bulo Marer in the Lower Shabelle region, southern Somalia.
The troops captured the town at 12.40 pm (local time) after a dawn operation which took more than 12 hours.
Bulo Marer town is in southwestern Lower Shebelle region is the second largest base for Al Shabab fighters and served a safe-house for the explosive experts.
In January 2013 a rescue attempt French special forces failed in the town. The French commandos were trying to rescue a high value DGSE agent Denis Allex captured by Al Shabab fighters.
11 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the military operation.
