The Somali National Army (SNA) have killed a key al Shabaab commander in Lower Shabelle among other militants in a raid in the stronghold of the al-Qaida affiliated terror organization.
Abdifatah Hajji Abdullahi, deputy governor of Lower Shabelle said that Al-Shabab commander Ibraahim Gargudud was among several militants killed over the weekend during a Somali army operation against Al Shabaab.
Intelligence indicates that Ibraahim Gargudud led Al-Shabaab unit, which usually carries out coordinated attacks on Somali army and regional officials at lower Shabelle region. The death of the unit commander is significant as there is friction within the ranks of al Shabaab who are locking horns over the direction of the group as well as the growing threat caused by rival ISIS affiliate group getting stronger.
