The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab this week dealt a huge blow after its head of abduction squad, Jiril Saed Ali was captured in Amara town, Mudug region of central Somalia after a fierce fight with security operators.
Corresponding open sources reports indicated that security forces loyal to former Banaadir regional police boss Sadaq John captured a senior Al-Shabaab commander after fierce fighting in central Somalia.
Mudug region of central Somalia has witnessed several battles between Somali forces and Al-Shabaab fighters in the recent weeks. The state-run media also reported that security forces led by John recaptured Amara town after engaging fierce fighting with Al-Shabaab militants who had been controlling town for months and during the operation, the forces succeeded to nab Jiril Saed Ali, who was reportedly responsible for foreign abductions carried out by the Islamist militant group.
The reports further noted that Ali played an important role in the kidnapping of two German and French women which took place in 2018 and 2011 respectively.
Counterterrorism operators have witnessed escalating security situation in Mudug region of Somalia in the recent past weeks whereby, Al-Shabaab has been storming Somali operated military bases especially in Ba’adweyne. Counterterrorism assets also warmed of budding militant’s operations broader Mudug region citing a number of militant’s operating and logistical camps.
