Somali security forces have reported that they have arrested one of the leaders of Al Shabaab in an operation within Mogadishu over the weekend. The arrested Al Shabaab leader was among the Amniyaat, a section in charge of intelligence and coordination of attacks.
It is believed that he was in charge of the execution of mass murders through attacks that were happening in the country. The Somali forces have carried out operations that aimed to flash out terror cells within the capital.
The Somali government reported that the operation is one of the three operations that it has conducted in Mogadishu for the last two weeks. It is in this section of Al Shabaab that prepares and stages attacks in Somalia especially the capital.
The Mogadishu positioned members of al Shabaab are considered as some of the most lethal terrorists in Somalia as they have been responsible for some of the largest attacks in the country. For instance, Somalia lost over 500 people in the Mogadishu’s twin bombing that happened on 14 October, 2017 which was the worst terrorist attack that the country has ever experienced.
