A terror suspect, Ali Hamisi Mzomo alias Mure was gunned down in a shootout with the police in Ujamaa area in Likoni Mombasa County. Area police boss Benjamin Rotich said police raided Mzomo’s house at 3 am and killed him after receiving intelligence that he had returned to the country after being away for three years.
Mure was in Somalia with the al Shabaab and is suspected to have returned in Kenya two weeks ago seeing as foreign al Shabaab fighters are being persecuted on the mere suspicion of espionage by the Mujahideen commanders. Moreover, Mure has been on the police radar for the past two years which can be viewed as the reason behind the raid at his home.
Mzomo has been linked to a number of botched attacks and crimes in the coastal region which placed him both on the ATP and Kenya Police radar. Police records show that he is suspected to have been involved in moving some youths to DR Congo to join an ISIS cell operating from the region.
It is believed that his return was strategic and as such the police recovered several items from the house that would help unearth the plot, his accomplices and other al Shabaab terrorist of Kenyan origin either operating in the country or Somalia.
