Heavily armed Al-Qaeda (AQ) linked Al-Shabaab terrorists reportedly ambushed Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) convoy in southern Somalia.

The terrorists ambushed UPDF soldiers as their convoy was travelling in El-Waregow area, located outside the southern coastal city of Marka, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle province.

UPDF soldiers fiercely engaged the terrorists in a heavy gunfight killing eight of them and successfully repulsed the surprise attack.

The terrorist group propaganda wing issued a statement that claimed it burned down three armored personnel carriers during the attack.

Another source confirmed that militants planted an IED (Improvised Explosive Devise) on the road that detonated the lead vehicles before engaging soldiers in a fierce gunfight.
