Terror group Harakat Al-Shabaab mujahideen (HSM) attempted to destroy a General Service Police Unit (GSU) armored personnel carrier (APC) vehicle by detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) at the vehicle in Mokowe
area of Lamu County in far-north coast of Kenya
Intelligence reports the GSU-APC withstood the impact of the IED and none of the personnel was injured.
The GSU conducted a counter strike targeting the positions of the terrorists and successfully repulsed them.
Al-Shabaab terror group issued a statement through a Somali radio station claiming that it had destroyed an army APC in an effort to spread propaganda and dis-inform public.
Kenya security services are conducting multifaceted counter-terrorism operations against the terror group Al-Shabaab in Lamu's Boni Forest which extends into Somalia thus providing safe havens and breeding ground for the Somali based terrorists
