AMISOM peacekeepers aided by the Somali National Army have lifted the blockade Al-Shabaab had placed on Bulo-Yusuf, El Jarmed and Bulo-Jadid villages in Bakool region. The siege was lifted yesterday. Information obtained from OSINT sources confirm that allied troops lifted the blockade without much resistance from the terror organization.
Al Shabaab had blockaded the three villages located in Southwestern Somalia for quite some time to the point that the local population had acquiescenced themselves to Al-Shabaab menace.
On the same day, Al Shabaab terrorists carried out an attack in Eel Lahelay village. The attack targeted a convoy of trucks delivering food aid provided by the Federal Government to Somali citizens in need. The village is located in Eelbuur district of Galgaduud Region. The attack has been confirmed by the local administrator, Nuur Hassan Guutaale.
Meanwhile in Southern Somalia, Al-Shabaab seeks to exploit the local clan conflicts and political disagreements to bolster its legitimacy, especially in the regions it controls. A conference held yesterday in Bardheere between senior Al-Shabaab leaders and a confederation of sympathetic tribal warlords aimed to win over local militias to the jihadi insurgency. One of the warlords that al-Shabaab sought to win over is Muktar Robow, an extremist hardliner who controls a tribal militia in Southern Somalia.
