Suspected al Shabaab terrorists set off a huge explosion at around 1200hrs today, before storming the building housing the Higher Education ministry. The huge explosion was followed by a sustained bust of gunfire at the center of Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia.
At the moment, one person has been killed while over a dozen others have been wounded. Nonetheless, it is too early to know the casualty figures as the attack is still ongoing at the time this brief was written.
Al Shabaab has not yet commented on the attack, though the Sunni-jihadist terror group has a history of conducting complex attacks using car bombs and teams of gunmen.
