The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab has renewed attacks in the capital Mogadishu, in the last days of Ramadan when people were making preparations for Eid celebrations. In the past few days, the terrorist group has scaled attacks targeting security forces. However, civilians have also been caught up in these attacks.
In one notable attack, a suicide bomber killed at least six people and wounded six more in a massive blast that targeted a police station in the Somali capital, Mogadishu on Sunday evening. A suicide bomber in a speeding vehicle detonated his vest at the front gate of the Waberi police district police station. Among the killed police officers included including Waberi Police Chief, Ahmed Bashane and Deputy Commander for Mogadishu Waliyow Adde Police Division, Abdi Basid.
The attack targeted the police station at Waberi, in the south of the city, on the busy Maka Al-Mukaram road. Among those killed included two police officials and four civilians. The blast also destroyed some buildings.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the assault but said they had killed five police personnel. Somali leaders condemned the Mogadishu suicide bomb attack.
